In my vRealize Operations announcement post from VMworld, I stated that there were some shocking changes coming to the TVS Suite – née Blue Medora – so this post is overdue now that these updates have been confirmed by VMware!
The latest updates to VMware vRealize True Visibility Suite are here. If you need a reminder these management packs originated with Blue Medora and allow you to bring monitoring data from your complete stack into vRealize Operations: storage, compute, networking, applications and even other management platforms.
With the new update all compute and storage management packs will be free in all versions of Operations! No licenses! Yes, you read that right! This means TVS Suite Standard will disappear and the other levels will go through some changes. Formerly only the DellEMC tech was included in the standard level and all others required advanced licenses. Well, no more. Needless to say this is a big step! Now your Operations will include support for things like Cisco UCS or HP Oneview by default! See the announcement blog post.
And if you thought Christmas came early, there is more! The connectors are now part of the TVS Advanced level, including ServiceNow! This means to connect your other management platforms like Nagios you do not need to shell out for an enterprise license! The Enterprise license is still needed to connect apps like MS SQL or Postgres.
You want more? Well here we go. And this is a bit of a surprise…. VMware is launching Technology Modules, the ability to buy only certain management packs and not the whole suite. There is a module for networking, apps, connectors, database and virtualization. When I was in sales I had many customers that asked for a flexible licensing approach similar to this… At least this proves that they listen to the field!
Of course all of the TVS Suite and technology modules also work on vRealize Operations cloud, so you can build this incredible centralised overview of your whole infrastructure – including multicloud – in your browser!
